Mark 1:29-34 · BSB

29As soon as Jesus and His companions had left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever, and they promptly told Jesus about her. 31So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32That evening, after sunset, people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed, 33and the whole town gathered at the door. 34And He healed many who were ill with various diseases and drove out many demons. But He would not allow the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

Jesus

Don't you want everyone you know to come to Jesus? Why would we not? As we read in this chapter, we see Jesus is the Son of God, powerful over the spiritual world, and we see here that He brings healing to the sick. If anyone is worth getting to know and telling others about, it's Jesus. And word starts to get out and crowds gather to be healed and set free.

Similar to demonic possession—physical ailments, blindness, and being mute or crippled have marred God's creation since the fall. And now there is a force stronger than medicine eliminating sickness and bringing healing to those born blind, deaf, and crippled.

We see here Jesus' heart for the one and for the many. He specifically healed Peter's mother-in-law and He also healed the crowd. Those whose wounds were bound and those bound in darkness—all were healed and delivered by Jesus Christ.

Jesus not only heals; He brings about what was lost at the fall. He reverses the curse that came upon the earth through the sins of Adam and his heirs.

02

His Desires

Our Lord desires to bring restoration to the brokenness by sin. He alone is the path to ultimate restoration and He longs for us to be completely restored in Him—a foretaste now, and fully complete in heaven with Him.

Follow Through

  • Praise Jesus that He is making all things new and has the power to heal and deliver.
  • Take a minute to think about hurting or oppressed people in your life. Pray about ways to bring Christ to them.
  • Pray for healing for those that are broken and sick in Jesus' name.
  • Pray, in Jesus' name, for freedom from demonic darkness over those who might be afflicted.
